The aim of the 'Vélo Club CERN', founded in 1979, is to bring together people who love cycling. Our activities are leisure oriented with no aim for competition, but with some reasonable physical training, accessible to everybody.
The Club is open to everybody working at CERN, associates, students, pensioners, etc. but also to people from outside. Technical service and advice are offered by the Club. Some stores in the region offer substantial price reductions to the members.
Every year there is a program of excursions from April to October, mainly in the Geneva area and nearby France. These excursions take place generally on Saturday afternoons, and, early in the season, on Saturday mornings. Sometimes we leave for a full day. Once or twice a year we organize a full weekend outing. In addition, a one-week excursion is organized in May and another one in September, in a different region each year, even non cyclists are welcome. Prices for these excursions remain very reasonable.
We propose training rides on Wednesday evenings.More experienced members participate in national or regional excursions in France and in Switzerland. These outings are especially appreciated for their superb scenery.We also participate in mountain bike and track cycling during winter.The executive Committee has a president, a vice-president, a treasurer and a secretary, and four other members with more technical functions. The Committee is elected by the General Assembly in autumn each year whereupon it starts preparing the program for the year to come.
